Vegetable tanning uses bark tannins instead of chromium salts. It is slower, and it is the reason the leather darkens into a patina rather than cracking or flaking. Full-grain leaves the outer surface intact instead of sanding it smooth.
The buckle is screw-fixed rather than riveted, so it can be swapped or a worn strap replaced without the whole belt going. Keep it out of prolonged rain, because veg-tan takes a water stain that does not come out.
